Winners of Belarus Science and Engineering Fair 2017 Announced

The final of Belarus Science and Engineering Fair 2017 (BelSEF Ц 2017) was held on February 17-19. This year, the largest national science and engineering contest celebrates its fifth anniversary. The BelSEF has been conducted since 2013 to promote scientific research activities among high school students and develop their creativity and interest in studying science.


136 science and engineering projects by students from all regions of Belarus competed in five categories: Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering and Robotics, Physics, and Environmental Sciences. 48 projects were named BelSEF 2017 finalists.

Winners in each category were announced during the award ceremony. They are as follows:

Katsiaryna Bandziaruk (11-th Grade, Kobrin Secondary School No.6) was awarded the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement from the American Meteorological Society.

Uladzislau Hadalau (11th Grade, Slutsk Secondary School No.11) received the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award.

The Student Award for Geoscience Excellence from the Association for Women Geoscientists went to Diana Zakudovskaja (8th Grade, Gritskevichi Educational Complex).

Aliaksandr Balyshau (9th Grade, Mogilev Secondary School No.15) received the Certificate of Recognition from the ASM Materials Education Foundation.

The Ricoh Sustainable Development Award was given to Veronika Mahon and Anna Bivojna (10th Grade, Minsk Gymnasium No.5).

Polina Androsjuk (8th Grade, Borisov Ecology and Tourism Center) was awarded the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement for Ability and Creativity in In Vitro Biology from the Society for In Vitro Biology.

The ASU Walton Sustainability Solutions Award was presented to Egor Kalach and Ilya Ilyin (9th Grade, Pravdinsky Secondary School of Pukhovichi District).

Tatsiana Klimakhovich (10th Grade, Volchin Secondary School of Kamenets District) received the Yale Science and Engineering Association Award.

The Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics honored Danila Eliseev (9th Grade, Minsk Gymnasium No.6).


"The BelSEF differs from other contests, with the students' projects being focused on practical application. Most of the projects are designed to deal with challenges students face. Hopefully, the number of such project will increase each year," commented HTP Deputy Director Alexander Martinkevich.

Two best projects will represent Belarus at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held May 14-19 2017 in Los Angeles (California, the USA):

Goldenrod: Promising Raw Material for National Pharmacology and Energetics by Aliaksandra Kakhavets, 10th Grade, Zhodino Gymnasium No.1.
